Date of use : 1937 France

Marcel Cabaret Photographic Shop Envelope

This postcard represents an interesting example of early twentieth-century commercial ephemera documenting the trade in photographic equipment and local commercial communication networks in France. The printed heading at the top reads "Comptoir Photographique de la Sarthe – Marcel Cabaret." This heading clearly indicates that the sender operated a business dealing with photographic equipment and related services. The address provided beneath the name, "1, Rue de la République, Le Mans," identifies the firm's location in the city of Le Mans, the principal urban center of the Sarthe region in western France. The additional phrase "Appareils, travaux et fourniture" suggests that the establishment offered photographic cameras, photographic work, and various photographic supplies.
The postcard is addressed to Monsieur Moullon, with the location written as Boulou, Aude, indicating a destination in the southern region of France. The profession of the recipient is not specified on the card. However, given that the sender was engaged in the trade of photographic equipment, it is possible that the correspondence concerned photographic materials, technical supplies, or commercial orders. While this interpretation cannot be confirmed with certainty, it corresponds with common patterns of commercial communication in the photographic industry of the period.
