Peru'dan Almanya'da Carl Zeiss firmasına gönderilmiş H.KÖHLER antetli zarf.Firma 1856 yılında gözlükçü Carl Zeiss tarafından Almanyanın Jena kentinde optik sistemler,mercekler,mikroskoplar tasarlamak üzere kurulmuştur. 1872 yılında Fizikçi Ernst Abbe 1884 yılında ise Otto Schott firmaya katılarak ileride büyük bir optik üreticisi haline gelecek firmanın temellerini atmışlardır. Mikroskop üretimi üzerinde Son derece ciddi çalışan firma 1861 yılında yirmi kişilik bir ekibe ulaşarak Almanyanın en iyi optik üreticileri arasına girmiştir. 1866 yılında ise ürettikleri bininci mikroskopun satışı gerçekleşmiştir. Carl Zeiss ‘ın 1888 yılındaki ölümünden sonra şirketin başına geçen Ernst Abbe fotoğraf ekipmaları bölümünü ve ayrıca Zeiss vakfını kurmuştur .

A letterhead envelope from Peru sent to the Carl Zeiss company in Germany by H. Köhler. The company was founded in 1856 in Jena, Germany by optician Carl Zeiss to design optical systems, lenses, and microscopes. In 1872, physicist Ernst Abbe joined the company, followed by Otto Schott in 1884, laying the foundations for what would become a major optical manufacturer. The company worked very seriously on microscope production and by 1861 had grown to a team of twenty, becoming one of Germany’s best optical producers. In 1866, they sold their thousandth microscope. After Carl Zeiss's death in 1888, Ernst Abbe took over the company, establishing the photographic equipment division as well as the Zeiss Foundation.
